Baby's First Trip

THE LOW DOWN
Last week, we took our first family vacation. We headed to the Catskills, about 2 hours north of New York, where we attended the wedding of Johnny's friends - Shahen and Kimmie. They got married in their house in the country. Isn't that romantic? The house has been in Shahen's family since the 60's.

It's also the beginning of fall. Full of excitement for the brisk, chilly air and the beginnings of leaves turning gold and scarlet. I'm excited to show you a few lovely, simple pictures of their Upstate wedding and of our stay. The wedding was on Saturday night, followed by a reception in their barn and a BBQ brunch on Sunday morning.

We rented a lovely romantic cabin in Elizaville (near Hudson valley). We've been flying under the radar since Kai was born, so it was so nice to get out and about, socialize and relax a bit.

DAYS: September 17, 2010 - September 20, 2010

WHAT WE DID:

UPSTATE NEW YORK - CATSKILLS

09.17.2010
We arrived at our little cabin and walked the grounds before heading to the farm stands for provisions. The owners had bought and renovated this 1940's cabin, and furnished it with mid-century furniture. Very lovely and cozy. It was the perfect little get-away. I was relishing living in this finished house - a nice break from our own house under renovation.

Pops needed a little rest after a long drive, but Kai was ready to go, go, go!

Kai checking out her surroundings. She's looking skeptical here, but she fully enjoyed being outdoors. She loved sitting in the grass and playing with each blade or twig or fallen leaf.

So much fun, but watch out for falling acorns!

Sunflowers from the farm stand. She loved to rip out the petals.

The morning of the wedding. Breakfast in the screened-in porched, our favorite spot in the cabin. It overlooked a gorgeous wetland filled with giant woodpeckers and wild turkeys. I was so excited to spot Pileated Woodpeckers! Not just one, but two of them together. They were huge! Maybe 16-19 inches tall with bright red crests.

Mush is the breakfast for champion babies.

Playtime before the wedding. Seven month old Kai approved of the comfy cowhide rug. She loved crawling around, slipping back and forth on the silky hide with her new set of blocks.

Kai hamming up with Mom.

Kai with Pops. It got a little chilly.

The lovely bride, Kimmie, in a gorgeous flowing dress.

Reception at the barn. I love baby profiles. They are the sweetest.
We were surprised and impressed how well Kai handled being out long past her bedtime. Here she is enchanted by the live Armenian music and dancing.

9.19.2010
The perfect slow-paced day. We spent the whole day hanging out with friends at Shahen's property, being fed an array of Armenian sweets and waiting around for the pig roast.

Napkins can bring on such a joy explosion for Kai.

The trip was wonderful. Kai was the perfect little nugget with little fuss. It did get a little chaotic sometimes with the diapers, nursing, missed naps and the amount of baby things we needed to schlep. Overall, we really loved traveling with our little peanut. I'm so glad we did it.
