Cousin Emily + Kai = BFF

It's sad that they live so far away in China.  If they lived closer, I know they would be the best of friends.  Kai just adored Emily, wanted to see her everyday and give her hugs all the time.  Kai had a really hard time understanding when we took them to the airport.  She cried and cried all the way home.

Strawberry Picking and the Beginning of Summer

It wasn't even Memorial Day and it was hot and humid like something that should be experienced in midsummer.  We hadn't seen Winnie, Chris and Emmett in a long time and decided that strawberry picking would be a fun outing for the kids.  We went to Alstede Farm in New Jersey.  The kids had a blast, loved it, and was great with picking the reddest berries.  It was fun for the whole day - the kids got to climb on haystacks,  pet the barnyard animals and enjoy all kinds of treats, like ice cream - we tuckered them out for the night.

Chan Family Reunion

We had the Chan family reunion this past May in Upstate New York. This was the first time we were all able to meet as a family since the birth of our children.  So it was an epic family reunion for us and all the little cousins meeting for the first time!  It was so cute and awesome.  The girls all got along.

We stayed at this lovely house, called Windrift Hall.  It was a romantic, beautiful 1790's Federal Style Manor house. Very private, but close to everything near Hudson Valley. Here are some pictures of the house before the calm was stirred up by the three little ones:

The first day we arrived, the girls ran around the property.  Kai kept on calling it the "Farm"...The littles couldn't get enough of the outside.  We were lucky to have some magnificent Spring weather.  Spring hadn't fully arrived upstate yet, the flowers in their garden were still in buds, but the yard with lush and green.

We spent a lot of time in this kitchen, cooking and eating around the spacious table or taking our meals onto the terrace out back:

When the littles weren't outdoors, this is what they would be doing indoors:

But the majority of the time, we were outdoors, running around, looking for dandelions, bugs, butterflies, birds, chipmunks, stray cats, swinging, visiting the pond, like this:

On our last day,  a couple of failed attempts at family portraits, but I love them all:

Our nights looked like this:  One Friday night, we were super excited about going to the Hi-Way Drive In Theatre off of Route 9W.  None of us could remember the last time we went to the movies since having kids.  I was so stoked that I ended up sleeping through most of the movie, ha.   The rest of the nights we pittered around the house, relaxing with chess, books or just plain sleep.

It was nice to get a way, a bit of a shot in the arm to spend in the fresh air and with family.  Next reunion on the West Coast?
